From your photo · A real printed book
A personalized children's book with your photo — painted, not pasted
Add a photo and tell us what the story should be about. We write and paint it into an original book where your child is the hero — and Grandma, the dog or a favourite toy can join, each from a photo of their own.
- Turn it into an audiobook
- Or a song from the story
Free to start · printed books from $39, about two weeks in the US · we never save your photo, only the drawing.

Not a photo album. Not a template. Something better.
“Storybook from a photo” can mean three very different things. A personalized children’s book with a photo, the way KindFable makes one, is a children’s book whose illustrated hero is painted from a real photo of your child — not a photo pasted onto a page, and not a stock character wearing your child’s name.
| Photo book | Name-in-a-template book | KindFable | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your photo becomes | The page itself — photos printed in an album | Nothing — the art is pre-drawn, only the name changes | A painted storybook character with your child’s face |
| The story | Captions you write yourself | The same story every family gets | Written for your child, about what you tell us |
| Who can be in it | Whoever is in your photos | Usually one child, sometimes a generic sidekick | Your child + up to 3 companions, each drawn from a photo |
| The result | A memory album | A nice gift that isn’t really about your child | A real 32-page picture book starring your child |
How it works — from your photos to a printed storybook
- Add a photo of your child, and photos of anyone else in the story — a grandparent, the dog, a favorite toy.
- Tell us what the story should be about, or the idea you already have. We write it and paint everyone into it, looking like themselves on every page.
- Read it together online, or order it as a real printed book.
Two bindings
Softcover or hardcover?
The same story, the same painted pages. One is made for the backpack — the other is made to be kept.

Softcover on the left, hardcover on the right — the same story inside.
Both: square 8.5 × 8.5 in · 216 × 216 mm · 32 painted pages
The cover
Softcover: Flexible card — softens with use.
Hardcover: Rigid boards — corners stay sharp.
The pages
Softcover: Lighter — easy for small hands.
Hardcover: Thicker, coated — richer colour.
As a gift
Softcover: Light — slips into an envelope.
Hardcover: Solid in the hands — you wrap it.
Years from now
Softcover: The everyday backpack copy.
Hardcover: The keepsake on the shelf.
Both hold the same story. If this book is meant to be kept, choose the hardcover.
Questions parents ask about the photo
What kind of photo do I need?
A normal phone snapshot works beautifully: your child's face clearly visible, front-on or close to it, in decent light. No professional shoot needed. Anyone else joining the story — a grandparent, a sibling, the dog — gets added from a photo of their own.
Is my child's photo stored?
No. KindFable never writes the photo to its own storage, database or logs — we keep no copy of it, no face template, and we never run face matching. What the photo does do is travel to our AI provider in the United States — the one that writes and illustrates the book — so the character can be checked and painted; that provider handles the photo under its own API terms. Only the finished drawing is kept.
How is this different from a photo book?
A photo book prints your photos on the pages. A KindFable book paints a new illustrated character from the photo — same face, same hair, same smile — and makes that character the hero of a written story across a 32-page picture book.
What does it cost?
Building the story and seeing your child's painted cover is free — no card needed. The book is then $39 as a softcover or $69 as a premium hardcover, which includes a narrated audio story of the book — and a song made from it comes free with every book. Shipping and any sales tax are calculated for your address at checkout.
How long does it take?
The painted cover appears within minutes. Once you have the book, the full set of illustrated scenes usually finishes rendering the same day, and a printed copy typically arrives in about two to three weeks — you will see a live estimate for your own address at checkout, and a tracking number where the carrier provides one. Printing and delivery are handled by our print partner, so those dates are estimates, not a guarantee.
What if I don't like the cover?
Then you simply stop — building the story and seeing the cover costs nothing, and no card is needed to get that far. If you do go ahead, you also confirm the finished book yourself before anything is sent to print.

Privacy & safety
Designed to be private by default
We never save the photo
Your child's photo paints the storybook character, and we keep no copy of it — no file, no face template, no face matching. It does pass through our AI image provider in the United States, under their terms.
Child-safe by design
Automated safety checks run on the story and the art before you see them, and nothing is printed until you confirm it. No automated check is perfect, so tell us if anything is off and we will put it right.
