Cookies and advertising

Advertising and analytics tracking is off until you turn it on — everywhere in the world, for everybody. If you have never touched the banner, nothing has been shared. The only cookies running by default are the strictly necessary ones — sign-in, a guest’s way back to a book they started, your cookie answer, and security; those can’t be switched off without breaking sign-in.

When you do accept, these partners may set cookies or receive events about your visit: Google (Analytics and Ads), Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok, Pinterest, and Rewardful, our referral partner. Accepting also lets us keep a first-party cookie for up to 90 days holding only the campaign parameters and the site you arrived from, and lets us report the order value plus a one-way, irreversible hash of your email address when you buy, so a sale can be matched to the ad you clicked. Decline and none of that happens.

Global Privacy Control

Some browsers and extensions can send an automatic opt-out signal called Global Privacy Control. We honour it on our side. A purchase made from a browser sending that signal is never reported to an advertising partner, whatever else has been clicked. And because advertising is off unless you switch it on, a browser sending the signal that never touches our banner is never tracked at all — you don’t have to click anything or email us.

What advertising partners never see

We never send your child’s photo, their avatar, or any story text to an advertising partner. Ever, consent or no consent.

One thing we want to be straight about: on pages where you have accepted analytics, the page address and page title are sent — and a book’s title can contain your child’s first name. That is why the pixels are also blocked outright on the page where you upload a photo, and in our admin console, regardless of what you accepted.

The photo you upload

KindFable never writes the original photo to our storage, our database, or our logs. Only the cartoon avatar drawn from it is kept. We store no face template and we never run face matching or face search — the avatar is a stylised drawing, not the photograph.

To make that drawing, the photo is sent to the AI provider that writes and illustrates your book, which processes it in the United States — so the picture leaves your country and, while it is being handled, sits under United States law. It is sent three times at three different moments: once when you pick the photo, to check it will work; then, when your book starts generating, once for an automated safety check and once to draw the avatar. If you add a companion — a grandparent, a sibling, a friend, a pet — from a photo, that picture goes to the same provider twice, both at the moment its avatar is made. That provider handles what it receives under its own terms, not ours, and may hold API inputs briefly for its own abuse monitoring; we have not verified a zero-retention arrangement, so we will not claim one.

We describe our AI providers by the job each one does rather than by company name. If you would like to know exactly which company draws your child’s avatar, email privacy@kindfable.com and we will tell you. The Privacy Policy lists every provider, what each receives, and where each one is.

One exception worth knowing: if you email a photo to our support team, that copy is stored with your support ticket and currently stays there even if you delete your account. Ask us at the address below and we’ll remove it.

A copy of your data, or its deletion

Email privacy@kindfable.com and tell us which you want — a copy of everything we hold, a correction, or deletion. We reply within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your children’s details, books, generated images, avatars, your notes and your conversations with our assistant. A narrow set of records survives on purpose (a de-identified consent receipt, support history, your do-not-contact entry, order and tax records the law requires, and security logs); the Privacy Policy lists exactly what and why.
