- 1At dusk, Poppy stood in a black cat costume and grabbed the glowing lantern. Ready?
- 2The pumpkins blinked again, then hopped from the porches. Poppy lifted the lantern, and the first march began.
- 3Lantern low, pumpkins follow. Down the winding lane they came, while porch lights winked behind them.
- 4The marching pumpkins passed silly scarecrows. Straw hats bobbed, and a crow called from a fence.
- 5Poppy led past the last porch. The lane curled towards a bridge over the misty pond.
- 6At the bridge, each pumpkin bounced across the boards behind the lantern. The mist puffed below.
- 7Lantern low, pumpkins follow. Across the water, the town square shone ahead.
- 8In the square, the orange fountain glowed. A pumpkin lagged behind, and the parade wobbled.
- 9Poppy stopped. The lantern handle tickled both palms as pumpkins bumped and bumbled together.
- 10Poppy saw it. The pumpkins marched best together when the lantern stayed low and slow.
- 11Up the hill they marched, all together. Pop! Sparkling candy burst above the pumpkins. "We made it!" said Poppy.
